Eventful Night In Pits Shortens Cody's Night

Plymouth, WI - June 18th, 2011

Starting the heat race 8th out 8 cars, Cody could tell it was going to be a long night. Heat race 1 of 3 was under way and Cody was battling with the 21K of Kyle Odekirk and the 95 of Jestin Danes for positions.

After a few laps Cody dropped off pace behind the pack, the race ended and he finished where he started.

Coming into the pits the crew quickly took the hood off. Out came steam and water from the car. As soon as Cody's crew saw this they knew something wasn't right.

"About half way through the race I knew something was wrong. The water temperature was well over 200 degrees and I could feel it getting warmer."

After cooling the car down, they found a rock that went through the radiator and was the cause of the overheating. The crew quickly removed the damaged radiator and started to install the new one.

As the heat races for all four divisions finished Cody's crew had the car back together and ready to roll for the A-Main.

As Cody was getting ready to head to the staging are for the A-Main, the car wouldn't start, they tried several things to get it fired and none of them worked. A crew member from the 8R of Billy Rezutek's team came over with there 4-wheeler to push me to the staging area. As soon as he got to the staging are a push truck pushed Cody onto the track to try and fire the car. Two laps went by and the officials motioned Cody back to the pits.

Going through all the electrical parts of the car Cody's crew found a faulty wire leading to the coil. The car then fired right up and Cody headed to the staging area. When he got to the shoot there was 8 laps in the books. The officials motioned Cody back to the pits. In the rule book it states if you do not take the green flag you cannot participate in the race.

Cody's night ended with alot of work in the pits and no work on the track. After missing the A-Main he took a hard hit in points falling from 12th to 15th in points. Cody will look to rebound this Saturday when the IRA 410 Sprint Cars comes to the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds along with the WDLMA Dirt Late Models and the Outlaw Compacts.

Right: Good friend of Cody's and defending feature winner Todd Hepfner poses in victory lane after capturing yet another A-Main victory in Plymouth.

Look for Hepfner to repeat this Saturday as well as Cody to capture his first A-Main victory. Racing starts at 6 pm.
